The Sisterwoman Vegan Reading Group (2019)

The ICA

Participatory Meal

Part of The Politics of Pleasure at the ICA, curated by a collective including Ifeanyi Awachie, Rita Gayle, and Nydia A. Swaby, exploring how Black women use pleasure as a powerful political act, a strategy of refusal, and a source of creativity and community.

I presented The Sisterwoman Vegan Reading Group. The project centred Black gender non-conforming, nonbinary, trans, and femme audiences, combining a curated library of influential Black literature with small plates and facilitated conversation.

Through this work, I explored how food, storytelling, and shared reading can create spaces of care, reflection, and pleasure, positioning culinary practice as a tool for cultural engagement and community-building. The project led to the development of the ongoing Sisterwoman Reading Group, extending these conversations and practices beyond the initial programme.
