RISE UP RESIDENCY Closing Dinner (2022)

The Albion Rooms, Margate

Communal Dinner

I was commissioned to create a climate-conscious closing dinner for the artists and organisers of the RISE UP RESIDENCY, a week-long mural project and educational programme in Margate, Kent, focused on ocean conservation and the impact of plastic pollution.

The dinner drew inspiration from the Margate coastline, incorporating locally foraged seaweed and other seasonal, sustainable ingredients to connect the menu directly to the natural environment the residency sought to protect. The plant-forward menu reflected both the ecological ethos of the project and the local landscape, highlighting the richness of coastal ingredients while minimising waste and environmental impact.

By referencing the coast and the ocean through flavour, texture, and ingredient choice, the dinner created a sensory dialogue with the murals and broader programme. It offered a space for reflection, community, and celebration, reinforcing the residency’s mission to unite artists and residents in care for the environment and the shared coastal landscape.
