ARTIST KITCHEN SALON ZINE (2023)
INIVA, Studio Voltaire
Collaborative Zine
I initiated, co-produced, and contributed to The Artist Kitchen Salon Zine, which documents a series of Artist Kitchen Salons that were part of INIVA’s Research Network programme, If Sea is History? – What is Nation?. It seeks to answer: What is conjured in our memory through food, in gathering together over an evening meal?
The publication combines my research with that of my fellow Research Associates Holly Graham, Shenece Oretha, and Beatrix Pang, functioning as both a cookbook and a memoir. It includes recipes, reflections, archival material, quotes, reading lists, and contributions from each salon held at Studio Voltaire between September 2022 and March 2023. Written forewords by Tavian Hunter and Maggie Matić frame the zine’s exploration of nationhood, identity, and the sensory and social dimensions of food.
This A5 bound zine functions as part cookbook (to be used in your kitchen) and part memoir of notes and reflections to be used as a source of inspiration on nationhood and identity. The first edition was printed in 2023 by Mixam UK Ltd., with a second edition reprinted in 2024.
